1. Introduction

Discreta is a personal safety system designed to help individuals - particularly solo workers such as real estate agents - stay safe through a discreet wearable device paired with a mobile application. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our app, website, or services.

By using Discreta, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

We offer sign-in through Google (Gmail) or Apple. When you authenticate, we receive basic profile information from those providers, which may include:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Profile photo

We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

2.2 Location Data

Discreta's core function relies on location sharing. When you activate an SOS alert or start a session timer, we collect your real-time GPS location and transmit it to your designated emergency contacts. Location data is:

  • Only transmitted when you trigger an alert or session
  • Not continuously stored on our servers beyond the duration of an active alert
  • Never sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes

2.3 Emergency Contacts

You may add up to 5 emergency contacts (name and phone number). This information is stored in your account and used solely to send SOS alerts and session timer notifications.

2.4 Device & Usage Data

We may collect technical data to operate and improve the service, including:

  • Device type and operating system
  • App version
  • Session activity logs (e.g., session start/end times)
  • discreet button pairing status

2.5 Communications

If you contact us by phone or email, we may retain records of those communications to provide support.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • Deliver SOS alerts and location data to your emergency contacts
  • Send session timer notifications via SMS (powered by Twilio)
  • Pair and communicate with your discreet button
  • Provide customer support and personal onboarding
  • Improve app performance and fix technical issues
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations

4. Third-Party Services

Discreta uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • Google Maps / GPS - used for authentication and real-time location services. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Twilio - used to deliver SMS alerts to your emergency contacts. Twilio may process the phone numbers of your contacts to send messages.

We do not sell your data to any of these or any other third parties.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored using Firebase infrastructure, which is hosted primarily in the United States. We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.

However, no system is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your Google or Apple account and to notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Location data transmitted during an SOS alert is not retained on our servers after the alert is resolved.

7. Your Rights

7.1 Canadian Users (PIPEDA)

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Withdraw consent for certain uses of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

7.2 U.S. Users

Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act). These may include the right to know what personal data is collected, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale (we do not sell your data). Please contact us to exercise any such rights.

8. Children's Privacy

Discreta is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Effective Date at the top of this page and notify users through the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use of Discreta after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
